AUMA Actuators, Inc. is pleased to announce the introduction of a new product called the AUMATIC.  The AUMATIC is a motor control package for  AUMA’s range of multiturn and quarterturn electric motor actuators.

The AUMATIC provides plant owners and operators with enhanced control interface capabilities and flexibility.  For example, the analog positioner will be an ‘adaptive positioner’ that automatically adjusts the dead band in response to the command signal.  Up to four intermediate positions can be programmed for indication or control.  An interface is available to communicate by means of the digital communications protocol PROFIBUS DP.  Operational data logging and an electronic nameplate provide information not previously available on AUMA actuators.

When the AUMATIC is used with the new MWG control unit in the SA or SAR actuator, AUMA can furnish a ‘non-intrusive’ actuator.  ‘Non-intrusive’ means the actuator parameters such as position and torque sensing, position feedback  and other control adjustments can be made without removing the actuator’s cover.  Position sensing is accomplished by means of an absolute encoder.  Torque sensing is by hall sensors.  A battery is not required to retain the settings when power is lost.

The electrical connection between the AUMATIC and the balance of the actuator which contains the gearing, handwheel and position & torque sensing devices is by plug and socket.  This allows the motor controls to be conveniently retrofitted, modified or swapped between actuators as required by plant personnel.  The connection between the field terminals and AUMATIC is also by plug and socket.

Best of all, the aumatic and MWG are used with existing multiturn and quarterturn actuators thanks to AUMA’s modular design.  This gives plant operators the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of high tech control features with a proven mechanical design.
