AUMA Actuators, Inc. Hosts Trade and Apprenticeship Organizations At Its Facility
|
On February 21, 2017, AUMA Actuators, Inc. (AUMA-USA) welcomed the German Chamber of Commerce, Pittsburgh Chapter (GACC PIT) and the Challenge Program, Inc. into its facility.
The GACC PIT, a nonprofit organization, was established in 2015 to promote and support bilateral trade between Germany and the United States.
The Challenge Program, Inc. provides parents whose children are in high school the opportunity to learn about trade occupations available for those students who do not wish to obtain a four-year post-secondary schooling degree. This program presents students with an opportunity to complete their secondary education while participating in an apprenticeship program where they can apply their training in an actual job setting and receive compensation for their time outside the classroom.
GACC PIT and the Challenge Program collaborated with AUMA-USA to offer students from Washington High School and Canon-McMillan a chance to visit AUMA-USA and further their understanding of technical and manufacturing opportunities. Upon arrival, students gathered in the training room for a short overview of AUMA-USA, presented by Tony Scacchitti, Production Manager. Afterward, Tony and Rory Bennett, Production Controls Supervisor, divided the students into two groups and toured the manufacturing floor. While touring, students were able to ask questions and comprehend what the expectation would be if pursuing the apprenticeship program.

Once the apprenticeship program is completed, the student receives a certificate, which makes him or her viable candidates for employment. The apprenticeship program is recognized by German manufactures and allows students to launch their career debt free.
“It is important for AUMA-USA to assist local schools in providing opportunities for students beyond a four-year degree. Therefore, it is significant for AUMA to establish a manufacturing curriculum and skill set to help students entering the workforce become employable,” said Tony. AUMA-USA is thrilled to join the GACC PIT and the Challenge Program in providing students hands on education that will allow them to pursue a career in manufacturing.
